How to get to Bakuriani
Bakuriani is about 180 km from Tbilisi and about 30 km from Borjomi. By road the journey usually takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on traffic and weather. There is no airport in Bakuriani, so the last leg is always by road.
By car or private transfer
The route from Tbilisi runs through Borjomi, and from there a mountain road climbs about 30 km to the resort. In winter, snow and ice can slow the last stretch, so winter tyres or chains are advisable, and it is worth checking the weather and the road before you leave. If you would rather not drive, drivers on MyBakuriani offer transfers from Tbilisi and from the airport, and taxis within Bakuriani.
By minibus (marshrutka)
Minibuses (marshrutkas) run from Tbilisi to Borjomi, and another goes on from Borjomi to Bakuriani. Timetables and fares change from season to season, so confirm the departure point and times with your accommodation or at the station, and allow extra time for the change in Borjomi.
The Kukushka narrow-gauge railway
The 37 km narrow-gauge line between Borjomi and Bakuriani, known as the Kukushka, is part of the resort's history. It has been out of service for several years, and the government has announced a full restoration. Check its current status before planning a trip around it.
Before you set off
The road card on the MyBakuriani home page shows the estimated drive time from Tbilisi, and the maps on apartment, hotel and sale listings have a route button. Keep your host's contact details handy: they can tell you about snow, parking and the last stretch to the building.
